Case summary
A resident of Maikop. On 16 April 2021, Siyukhov's home was searched and he was detained. The next day, the court decided to detain him for alleged involvement in the activities of an extremist organisation in connection with his association with the Jehovah's Witnesses community. Representatives of this community are prosecuted under extremist articles solely for religious activities: meetings, joint worship services, attracting new supporters. On 7 March 2024, Siyukhov was sentenced to six years in a general regime colony. On 30 April 2025, he was released.
We believe that the case of Inver Siyukhov appears to be politically motivated, as the persecution of the believer seems to be related solely to his religious activities as a Jehovah's Witness. The accusation of "extremism" appears to be linked to involvement in peaceful gatherings and discussions about the Bible, which does not pose a threat to public safety.
