According to the investigation, in January 2023, while being in the town of Essentuki (Stavropol Krai), he contacted the Freedom of Russia Legion by telephone and declared his desire to join the armed formation, after which as directed by a representative of the banned organization, he made a video recording of a military recruitment office and then agreed to carry out its arson. He purchased the ingredients for a homemade incendiary mixture and started to make it, but did not manage to complete his plan.
