Case summary

On 26 December 2015, in the village of Ivanovka, Amur region, armed men burst into the house of a local resident where several Muslims, including Starodubtsev, had gathered. The armed men conducted a search, ordering all those present to lie down on the floor and handcuffing them all. Everyone, including Starodubtsev, was taken for interrogation. Starodubtsev was questioned as a witness, as he was told, in the case of organising the activities of an extremist organisation opened against Yevgeny Kim. The investigator told Starodubtsev that he could easily be transferred to the status of an accused. A search was also conducted in Starodubtsev's flat and workplace. In June 2016, Starodubtsev was charged with participation in the activities of an extremist organisation. He left Russia and is on the wanted list.
