Case summary

Resident of Sevastopol. On 4 June 2019, he was detained and the next day released on his own recognisance on suspicion of organising activities of an extremist organisation due to his involvement in the Jehovah's Witnesses community. Representatives of this community are prosecuted under extremist articles solely for religious activities: meetings, joint worship services, attracting new supporters. On 29 March 2021, he was sentenced to six and a half years in a general regime colony, taken into custody in the courtroom. In December 2021, Stashevsky was placed in a high-security barracks in the colony due to the lack of a tag on his jumper. In the same month, he was assigned six months of detention in a single cell-type facility (SCF). After that, he was transferred to another colony without his belongings, so Stashevsky was forced to go for walks in slippers in the December cold. In June 2022, Stashevsky was returned to the colony where he had been before. In September it became known that he was transferred to strict detention conditions (SUS). In January 2023, he was sent to a cell-type facility (CCF). In September 2023, it was reported that Stashevsky was again transferred to SUS. In October - that he was again sent to the EPCT. On 2 May 2024, the court decided to toughen the conditions of Stashevsky's sentence by sending him to prison.
