Case summary
On 8 February 2016, he was summoned for questioning and informed that a criminal case had been opened for incitement to hatred using his official position; the flat of Suleymanov and his mother was searched, a telephone and computer equipment were seized, as well as the Islamic scholar's working notes on the links between Russian citizens and the Islamic State, copies of the Russian Order newspaper and a brochure by Alexander Barkashov from Suleymanov's archive; the ruling on the initiation of criminal proceedings states that Suleymanov published materials on social networks from 2011 to 2016 that testify to "the alleged existence in the Republic of Tatarstan of a bandit underground of radical Islamists, active national separatist groups and their support by a large number of supporters from among Muslims and Tatars, as well as from the clergy and representatives of the republic's authorities", and also stated about the "mass persecution" of Russians in Tatarstan and the existence in the republic of "propaganda of national exclusivity of Tatars"; On 8 July 2016, the criminal case was terminated
