Case summary

He is a writer and author of books on Russian cuisine. In June 2025, his home was searched, during which equipment was seized. On 8 October, he was detained in a case of spreading deliberately false information about the Russian Armed Forces for his posts about the war in Ukraine, including a 2022 post about the events in the Ukrainian city of Bucha, which was occupied by Russian troops in the first weeks of the war.

The day after his arrest, the court ordered that he be taken into custody.

Published under CC BY 3.0. The criteria for treating a person as politically persecuted belong to OVD-Info; FACTUM relays their assessment and makes none of its own.

OVD-Info has been designated an «extremist» organisation in Russia — by decision of the Russian authorities, like other independent human rights and media projects.
