On 24 May 2019, Tokarev's flat was searched and he was interrogated and then released as a suspect in a case on the activities of an extremist organisation. Later, he was charged and released on personal recognisance.
On 23 October 2020, he was sentenced to a fine of 500 thousand rubles (US$5,500).
