Case summary
A resident of Izhevsk. On 14 December 2022, Votyakov's home was searched as part of a case of organising activities of an extremist organisation in connection with his involvement with the Jehovah's Witnesses community. Representatives of this community are prosecuted under extremist articles solely because of their religious activities - holding meetings and prayers and attracting new supporters. The next day Votyakov was placed under house arrest. On 7 August 2023, his measure of restriction was changed to recognisance not to leave. On 25 October 2024, Votyakov was sentenced to six and a half years' suspended sentence. On 4 February 2025, the appeal court replaced the suspended sentence with a real one.
