According to the investigation, he submitted an application to the Freedom of Russia Legion, after which he was offered two options: either to commit an arson on the territory of Russia, or to go to Ukraine and take part in the combat actions. He chose the second option. He then was sent instructions on how to get to Ukraine: either by plane through Kazakhstan and Moldova, or by crossing the border in the Bryansk region. He again chose the second option, arrived in the Bryansk region, where, allegedly, he twice searched for a place to cross the border, but was detained.
