Case summary
A resident of the Moscow region, a schoolgirl. On 15 November 2023, she was detained on suspicion of preparing an attack on the school she was attending, as well as participating in the activities of a terrorist organisation, namely the defunct Columbine movement. The publication of the "Takie dela" media dedicated to the girl (in the text she is called Lyuba) stated that she came across a private Telegram channel on the stories of the teenagers who committed shootings in American schools while she has been studying this topic. To join the channel and receive, as it has been promised to her, some secret information, the girl was required to fill out a questionnaire about her intentions related to the school shooting, using ready-made answers. Zhuravleva, according to the case file cited by the publication, indicated that she intended to carry out a school shooting four years after filling out the questionnaire. The promised secret information was not sent to her. The publication in "Takie dela" also says that the girl exploded a firecracker and recorded it on video. Experts, having studied the seized fragments of the firecracker, concluded that it was not an explosive device. The schoolgirl was placed in custody.
The article in "Takie dela" says that the girl was bullied by her cellmates and due to that sent to a psychiatric hospital. Later, she was returned to the pre-trial detention centre. However, upon the case getting the attention of the general public, it was transferred to another investigator. A torture case has been opened, and Zhuravleva was released on 17 June 2025 on her own recognizance.
