The case against Zykov was initiated due to social media posts about dead soldiers from the Kostroma regiment of the Airborne Forces, about anti-war actions in Amsterdam and The Hague, about Zykov's friend who survived bombings near Sumy, about a certain video in which Zykov saw "bearded pigs fighting in foreign parts of a foreign country", as well as about the criminal case itself. Initially, the case was opened under Part 1 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code (public dissemination of deliberately false information about the actions of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation), but the charge was later reclassified to dissemination of deliberately false information about the Armed Forces with the motive of political hatred (Paragraph "E" of Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code).

Full summary
Former head of Navalny's Kostroma and Saratov headquarters. Left Russia.
In September, members of The Investigative Committee came to his mother's house, ostensibly to serve a summons in a criminal case. The summons was registered to his grandmother, who had passed away ten years ago. During the conversation, the investigator mentioned that he had talked to the head of the jewellery factory where the activist's mother works and hinted at her possible dismissal. In January it became known that seven people were questioned in the Zykov case in Kostroma, one of whom Zykov had never met.
On 22 June 2023, Zykov was sentenced in absentia to five years in penal colony.
