The Makhachkala Sea Trade Port caught fire and drone debris fell onto the roof of the Gamzat Tsadasa Avar Music and Drama Theater, according to Current Time. The port is Russia's only deep-water, ice-free harbor on the Caspian Sea and handles shipments from Iran.
Fyodor Shchukin, the acting head of Dagestan, said the fires were quickly extinguished and that there were no deaths or injuries. He also urged residents not to publish photos or videos of the attack's aftermath, Deutsche Welle reported.
Ukrainian Telegram channels posted footage of the attack, including video of the strike on the drama theater.
The port includes an oil harbor with five specialized berths for tankers of up to 10,000 tons, with an export capacity of up to 7.9 million tons of oil and petroleum products a year. It also handles dry cargo: on September 1, Russia reported a new historic grain record of more than 2.9 million tons transshipped over eight months, with about 1.83 million tons of liquid cargo handled. An oil depot connected to the Baku-Novorossiysk trunk pipeline sits next to the port.
Ukrainian drones had previously attacked Dagestan on August 24, striking the largest Ozon marketplace warehouse in the North Caucasus.
Late on September 9, drones and unmanned boats attacked Sochi. The Operational Headquarters of Krasnodar Krai said a fire broke out on the seafront in Sochi. It also reported that a performance by singer Tatyana Bulanova at the Festivalny concert hall was cut short.
The number of people injured in the attack by unmanned boats in Sochi has risen to 28, including two children, Ekho reported, citing the regional operational headquarters. Three adults and one minor, a 16-year-old, remain in hospitals, Sochi Mayor Andrei Proshunin specified. Earlier on Thursday, eight injuries were reported.
Proshunin called the damage to resort infrastructure "insignificant," but several beaches will be closed until the aftermath is cleared. Sochi's airport was closed for 10 hours, with more than 100 flights delayed on departure and arrival, according to the outlet 93.ru. Ukrainian monitoring channels said the targets were the seaport. The Ukrainian side has not officially confirmed the attacks.
According to a summary from Russia's Defense Ministry, from the evening of September 9 to the morning of September 10, air defense forces on duty "intercepted and destroyed" 448 Ukrainian drones over 13 regions of Russia, annexed Crimea and the waters of the Black and Caspian seas. Besides Dagestan, drones were seen over Kalmykia, Krasnodar Krai, and the Astrakhan, Volgograd, Voronezh and other regions.
