A fire broke out Thursday morning in a production workshop at the Proton-PM plant in the Perm settlement of Novye Lyady, where the company's facilities are located. The plant, part of the state space corporation Roscosmos, produces liquid-fuel rocket engines for Proton and Angara launch vehicles, as well as components for aviation equipment.
Local social media channels published videos showing thick black smoke rising over the plant's territory, with eyewitnesses reporting a strong smell of burning plastic. The regional branch of the Emergency Situations Ministry (MChS) confirmed a fire at an industrial facility but did not name the enterprise.
The fire covered an area of 2,100 square meters. More than 80 people and 28 pieces of equipment were involved in fighting the blaze. According to the MChS, open flames were extinguished at approximately 10:47 local time, and no casualties have been reported.
The company declined to comment on the situation. The cause of the fire is to be determined by an investigator from Russia's MChS. Officials have not reported any attack on the region, and the Perm region was not mentioned in the Defense Ministry's daily briefing on downed drones.
