In an interview with Pavel Zarubin, a host on the state-controlled Rossiya 24 channel, Putin said the strikes help Russian forces accomplish combat tasks, disrupt the delivery of equipment and ammunition to Ukrainian troops on the front line, and hinder personnel rotation.
Putin also complained about Ukrainian retaliatory strikes on Russian territory, acknowledging they cause economic damage. He claimed that 'no turning point in the confrontation with Russia could have happened, and it did not happen.'
Speaking about Ukraine's goals, Putin said Kyiv 'opened Pandora's box itself' by inflicting damage on the Russian economy and would now 'receive a response in the most sensitive sectors.' He mentioned agricultural production, from whose food exports Kyiv derives its main revenues.
Putin called all of Ukraine's peace proposals 'sometimes exotic and unacceptable.' He said Russia is ready for negotiations, but taking into account the situation on the ground. He also expressed support for the United Russia party in the elections and said Ukraine is trying to disrupt the vote, but that this attempt is doomed to fail.
