The Moscow branch of the Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case against journalist Katerina Gordeeva under Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Russian Criminal Code, which criminalizes the public dissemination of deliberately false information about the Russian armed forces.
According to the committee, Gordeeva posted messages containing "deliberately false information" about the actions of Russian troops in Ukraine on her Telegram channel. The statement did not specify which publications are at issue.
The Investigative Committee said its conclusions were based on "psychological and linguistic examinations" of the posts conducted by its experts. The investigation is also considering placing the journalist on an international wanted list. Gordeeva has lived outside Russia since 2014.
Gordeeva hosts the YouTube show "Skazhi Gordeevoy" (Tell Gordeeva), whose guests have included singer Alla Pugacheva and writer Mikhail Zygar. She is also the author of the book "Unesi ty moye gore" (Take Away My Grief), published by Meduza.
Authorities designated Gordeeva a "foreign agent" in 2022. In March 2024, she was issued a protocol for failing to label her content with the foreign agent designation, and in March 2026 she was fined 120,000 rubles over an interview with Zygar in which authorities saw "LGBT propaganda."
