The Kirovsky District Court of Yekaterinburg found Vladimir Sobyainin guilty of displaying extremist symbols, the Yabloko party's press service said. The single-mandate candidate for the State Duma was jailed for 12 days, a term that, by TV Rain's count, will keep him in custody until the end of the elections.
The case against him was opened over Memorial's symbols in a post Sobyainin published on Facebook and a photograph from a 2024 National Bolshevik rally, It's My City reported.
Sobyainin was detained on September 7. The same day in Yekaterinburg, security forces detained five other Yabloko candidates. All of them were released at the time after protocols on "extremist symbols" were drawn up.
One of the candidates, Alexei Kudelkin, was later jailed for 10 days. Konstantin Kiselyov, the leader of Yabloko's faction in the city duma, and Shana Ognei, a candidate for the regional legislative assembly, were fined.
The Second Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction in St. Petersburg upheld the Sverdlovsk Regional Court's decision to remove Yabloko from the elections to the Sverdlovsk Region Legislative Assembly on a lawsuit filed by the Liberal Democratic Party (LDPR).
