Case summary
Crimean Tatar Kazin Ametov and three other defendants in the case - Bekir Degermendzhi, Asan Chapukh and Ruslan Trubach - were detained on 23 November 2017. Before the arrest, they decided to help the veteran of the Crimean Tatar national movement Vejiya Kashk, from whom the husband of her granddaughter, a Turkish citizen, according to the version of the investigation, borrowed, and according to the family - stole a large sum of money. Bekir Degermendzhi and other activists met with this man several times and tried to persuade him to return the stolen money.
On 23 November 2017, on the day when he was supposed to hand over the money to Veđiye Kaška, they were detained and accused of extortion.
On 24 November 2017, the accused were sent to pre-trial detention. On 24 January 2019, Ametov and other defendants in the case were transferred to house arrest.
On 17 April, he was sentenced to three years' suspended sentence. Shortly before the verdict, the court recovered from Yusuf Aytan the money allegedly extorted from him by the defendants in the "Veciye Kashk case".
