Case summary

Resident of Astrakhan. On 13 May 2011, he was detained in connection with a case involving the organisation of an extremist group’s activities, specifically for his involvement with the Islamic movement Tablighi Jamaat. Adherents of this movement are persecuted solely for their religious practices. On 15 May 2011, Avdonin was released on his own recognizance. On 25 May 2012, he was sentenced to one and a half years in a settlement colony. He was presumably released in early 2014. In June 2020, he was removed from the Rosfinmonitoring list of extremists and terrorists, but was later re-added to it.
