Case summary

Resident of Astrakhan. In May 2011, he was given a covenant not to leave as part of a case of participation in the activities of an extremist organisation due to his involvement in the activities of the Islamic movement Tablighi Jamaat. His adherents are persecuted solely because of their religious activities. On 25 May 2012, he was sentenced to a fine of 150,000 rubles, the punishment was replaced by 200 hours of community work. He was later convicted on charges of recruiting people to participate in the fighting in Syria and evading administrative supervision (we do not consider these charges to be politically motivated).
