Case summary

A resident of Krasnodar. On 9 April, 2025, he was detained and taken into custody in a case of justification of terrorism and preparation to participate in the activities of a terrorist organisation.

The first charge relates to Barashkin's comment calling to set fire to the Prosecutor's Office building in St. Petersburg under the news about the Prosecutor General's Office filing a lawsuit to recognise the Vesna protest movement as extremist. The second article was attributed to Barashkin due to his correspondence with an alleged representative of the Freedom of Russia Legion. According to law enforcement, the man sought to join this unit which was fighting alongside the Ukrainian army. The prosecutor's office says Barashkin was opposing the war in Ukraine.

On 7 October, 2025, the court sentenced Barashkin to seven years in prison, of which he is to spend the first two years in jail and the remaining time in a strict regime prison colony.
