According to the court, on 30 September 2022, Barashkin, "being an opponent of the special military operation, in one of the messengers in the Rospartizan group under the news about the appeal of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation with a lawsuit to declare the Vesna movement extremist", posted a comment with the text "people in Petersburg - burn it down", which was considered as a call to commit a terrorist act by setting fire to the building of the Prosecutor's Office of St. Petersburg. "Guided by the same motives, on 25 March 2025 he entered into correspondence with a representative of the Freedom of Russia Legion, recognised as a terrorist organisation, in which he informed them about his desire to become its member and provided information about himself, but was unable to bring his criminal intent to an end due to circumstances beyond his control, as his criminal activity was stopped by officers of the Federal Security Service."

The first charge relates to Barashkin's comment calling to set fire to the Prosecutor's Office building in St. Petersburg under the news about the Prosecutor General's Office filing a lawsuit to recognise the Vesna protest movement as extremist. The second article was attributed to Barashkin due to his correspondence with an alleged representative of the Freedom of Russia Legion.
