Case summary
Detained on 12 December 2018 at the entrance to Crimea from the Kherson region, when he was travelling by taxi. The next day he was taken into custody on charges of manufacturing and storage of ammunition and explosives.
Edem Bekirov is a disabled person of Group I, he has diabetes mellitus, recently suffered a heart attack and had heart surgery, and had a leg amputated.
On 27 August the court changed Bekirov's measure of restraint from detention to an obligation to appear in court.
On 7 September 2019, Bekirov was released as part of the exchange of Ukrainian political prisoners for groups of people released by Ukraine, arrived in Ukraine.
On 9 June 2021, he was sentenced in absentia to seven years of general regime colony and 150 thousand rubles fine.
