Case summary

A former deputy of the Council of People's Deputies for the Semiluksky District in the Voronezh Region. She is currently outside of Russia and has been placed on a wanted list. Initially, a criminal case was initiated against Belyaeva for spreading deliberately false information about the Russian Armed Forces; later, it was revealed that she was also suspected of public justification of terrorism. The Investigative Committee subsequently reported that the deputy had been remanded in custody in absentia, facing two charges under the latter article. In July, Belyaeva announced her resignation from the council.
