Case summary

A doctoral candidate of Biological Sciences, former employee of Kazan Federal University. Detained after searches on 17 March 2022 as a suspect in a case of involvement in mass riots. During the search he was threatened with physical violence and promised that his elderly mother would be stripped naked if he did not provide his phone and password. On 19 March Boiarshinov was released, but was immediately taken to an unknown direction. On 20 March it became known that he was under house arrest in the case of public justification of terrorism. On 29 March, at the request of the prosecutor's office Boiarshinov was taken into custody. Boiarshinov was twice not brought to court, as the administration of Pre-trial Detention Centre No. 1 in Samara stated that they did not have Boiarshinov, while, according to the information from lawyers who visited him and people who received letters from him, he was there. On 7 May 2024 Boiarshinov was sentenced to five years in a general regime colony. In March 2025, it was reported that Boiarshinov had not received any letters since January.
