Case summary

A resident of Tynda, Amur region. On November 11, 2019, a criminal case was opened against an organization that engaged in extremist activity, specifically involving the Jehovah's Witness community. Representatives of this community were prosecuted under extremism-related articles for religious activities such as meetings, joint worship and attracting new members.

On November 17th, Bukin's apartment was searched and he was placed under house arrest. He was accused of engaging others in extremism. On October 25th, 2022, he received a sentence of six and a half years imprisonment in a general-regime colony. The court ruled that he should remain in custody until the trial. However, on December 27th the appeal court overturned the decision and returned the case back to the original court. Bukin was then released on his own recognizance. Six months later, on June 23rd, the first court sentenced him to another six years amd four month in a general regime penal colony.
