Sergey Yuferov

A resident of Tynda (Amur Region). On 11 November 2019, a case was brought against him for organising activities of an extremist organisation due to his involvement in the Jehovah's Witnesses community. Representatives of this community are prosecuted under extremist articles solely for religious activities: meetings, joint worship services, attracting new supporters. On 17 November Yuferov's flat was searched. He was on a recognisance not to leave the country. He was also accused of involving others in extremist activities. On 25 October 2022 he was sentenced to six and a half years in a general regime colony, taken into custody in the courtroom. On 27 December, the court of appeal cancelled the verdict and returned the case to the court of first instance, Yuferov was released on his own recognisance. On 23 June 2023, the court of first instance sentenced him to six years and four months in a general regime colony.
