According to the investigation, around June 2023, he joined the Telegram channels Legion 'Freedom of Russia' and Partisans in Rus, as well as joined "other chat rooms with active correspondence of users with anti-Russian orientation, calls for armed struggle against the current government". "No later than 11 September 2023", he entered into correspondence with a user under the nickname "Magavk" through the messenger Telegram, they discussed explosions and arsons. "Magavk" suggested that Doronin should commit arson of "transport infrastructure" and instructed him how to make a "Molotov cocktail". Doronin enlisted Egor Lauskis to participate in the arson. "Doronin and Lauskis distributed tasks among each other, according to which Doronin was to procure a bottle, petrol, a fragment of cloth and a lighter, and Lauskis was to procure styrofoam, i.e. the necessary components to make a bottle with a homemade incendiary mixture as an instrument of crime". On 16 September 2023, together with Lauskis, he intended to set fire to a locomotive at the Lakhta station in St. Petersburg on the instructions of "a curator actively supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine", but, failing to find it, "threw a bottle with burning liquid into a relay cabinet", thereby causing property damage in the amount of 758 rubles 18 kopecks. According to the persecuted, they made the appearance of arson out of fear of threats from "Magavk".
