Case summary

In November 2013, it became known that a case had been opened against people involved in the activities of the Novosibirsk Tablighi Jamaat cell; Ibrohim Dzhurakhujaev was previously known as Kamolitdin Rakhmanov; according to the preliminary version of the investigation, he was the leader of the cell; in 2012, he was deported from the Russian Federation due to his involvement in Tablighi Jamaat, with a five-year ban on entry into the country, but later returned on a false passport; together with 15 other people, he was charged with participation in the activities of an extremist organisation; a case of illegal border crossing has also been opened. On 5 November 2015, the charge of participation in the activities of a banned organisation was dropped due to the expiry of the statute of limitations; under the article on illegal border crossing, he was sentenced to a year in a penal colony.
