Full summary
According to Erzhenkov, the inscription was intended to draw attention to the "deplorable condition" of the cultural heritage objects in the city. The journalist added that the inscription was applied with water-based paint, which is easily erased. "Alas, the inscription which could be washed off with a rag and water was painted over with black oil paint by the utility workers. This is the real gesture of vandalism," he explained. Erzhenkov said that he was beaten up during the detention.
The court dismissed the case twice, after which the prosecutor's office appealed the decision twice. On 3 May 2023, Erzhenkov was sentenced to eight months of restricted freedom. In Augus, it became known that he was accused of violations of administrative supervision; because of this, he could be sent to a colony.
