Case summary

A Ukrainian serviceman. Captured on 18 May 2022 during the defence of Azovstal. A case was opened against him and nine other servicemen for attempted murder of two or more people, use of prohibited means and methods in an armed conflict, and intentional damage to other people's property. According to the version of the investigation, they shelled residential houses in Mariupol. On 20 March 2024, Gaikovich was sentenced to a term of at least 22 years in a strict regime colony. Later it became known about a new criminal case against Gaikovich and three other servicemen from the same group. They were accused of attempted murder, intentional damage to other people's property and cruel treatment of civilians with the use of prohibited methods of warfare. According to the investigation, they shelled residential houses in the village of Berdyanskoye in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, which is located on occupied territory. On 26 June 2025, Gaikovich was sentenced in this case to 31 years in a strict regime colony. On 8 October 2025, the appeal court changed the sentence, the details are unknown.

Gaikovich was also prosecuted for participation in the activities of a terrorist community due to his involvement in the activities of the Azov battalion. On 5 March 2026, he was sentenced in this case, details are unknown.
