Case summary
A resident of the Arkhangelsk region, he was detained in the early hours of 27 October 2023 in front of the local military enlistment office. The following day, a court sentenced him to seven days of administrative arrest under the article on petty hooliganism (Part 1, Article 20.1 of the Russian Code of Administrative Offences). The report stated that he had touched the building with his hand and responded with profanity to the police officers' demand to stop. On 2 November he was sentenced to another seven days under the article on incitement to hatred or hostility (Article 20.3.1 of the Code of Administrative Offences). On 4 November Gubkin's house was searched. After seven days from the second trial Gubkin was not released. It became known that a criminal case was initiated against him for calling for activities that violate the security of the Russian Federation. According to the version of law enforcers, he called for the arson of the military recruiting office in a Telegram chat room. In addition, the court received case files against Gubkin under administrative articles on discrediting the army (paragraph 1 of Article 20.3.3 of the CAO) and dissemination of information that humiliates human dignity (part 3 of article 20.1 of the CAO). On 15 March 2024, Gubkin was sentenced to three years in a general regime penal colony.
