Case summary

Resident of the Kherson Oblast (Ukraine). Khalilov was detained on 21 July 2022 in the village of Salkovo, Genicheskiy district, Kherson Oblast, after which he was taken from there with a bag over his head and placed in a pre-trial detention centre in Simferopol. He was accused of involvement in an illegal armed formation, namely the Crimean Tatar Volunteer Battalion named after Noman Chelebidzhikhan, which apparently was not functioning at the time of the prosecution. On 2 March 2023, Khalilov was sentenced to five years in a strict regime colony.
