On 19 May 2015, he was detained and taken from Almetyevsk to Kazan and arrested on the next day together with three other people in connection with alleged involvement in the Islamist party Hizb ut-Tahrir, which has nothing to do with terrorism. On 5 April 2017, he was sentenced to 17 years in a strict regime colony
