Alexander Karpenko

According to the investigation, he held views critical of the formation and existence of the USSR, as well as the actions of its political leadership and one of its military commanders, deeming their activities ineffective during the Great Patriotic War. In June 2021, while at his home in the city of Tikhoretsk, he sent an article via email to the editorial office of an online publication for a scientific and practical journal, which later became accessible to an indefinite audience. (The article in question may refer to *"Resurrecting Soviet Myths. The Great Patriotic War,"* an analysis of Ivan Yurov's book *"For the Glory of the Great Power,"* dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.) In this article, Karpenko, according to the investigation, ascribed exclusively negative connotations to the concept of "patriotism," made negative and offensive remarks about the country's leadership during the war, and criticized defenders of the homeland and veterans.
