Case summary
A citizen of Ukraine. On 16 May 2022 he was taken into custody in St. Petersburg in a vandalism case. On 14 November, he was sentenced to a fine of 30 thousand rubles, a more lenient punishment than provided for by the 2nd part of Article 214 of the Criminal Code. In addition, the court credited Kazants's time spent in custody, thus relieving him of the need to pay the fine. On 25 January 2023, the appellate court overturned the verdict and sent the case for a new hearing, granting the prosecution's motion: the prosecution considered the sentence too harsh. On 30 March Kazanets was given a new sentence, the details are unknown.
