Case summary
A resident of St. Petersburg. According to the investigation, he was an active participant in “Right Sector,” known by the alias Sever. On March 24, 2022, Kazantsev was taken into custody after operatives identified him among Ukrainian prisoners of war. Following his detention, the NTV television channel published a video featuring his confession. According to his mother, the confession was obtained under torture, which led to the amputation of his toes. In court, Kazantsev denied any involvement with “Right Sector.”
On November 28, 2023, he was sentenced to 12 years in a high-security penal colony on charges of participation in the activities of an extremist organization, weapons possession, and involvement in an armed formation. On March 19, 2024, a court of appeal reduced his sentence by one month.
