Case summary

Mikhail is a resident of Shuya, Ivanovo Oblast. He enjoyed airsoft and regularly went on hikes and training sessions. In June 2023, he was detained and placed in custody on charges of publicly justifying terrorism, due to a video obituary dedicated to a fallen Ukrainian Armed Forces fighter with the call sign “Mujahid”, as well as for posting the logo of the Russian Volunteer Corps. He was later additionally charged with preparation for high treason, as the investigation claimed he intended to join the ranks of the RDK. On 15 October 2024, Kupriyanov was sentenced to seven years in a strict-regime penal colony.
