Case summary

In custody since 7 November 2012 on suspicion of cooperation with Hizb ut-Tahrir. Accused of organising the activities of an extremist organisation and preparing for a violent seizure of power. He partially admitted guilt. He explained that he was a member of Hizb ut-Tahrir and led 2-3 groups of people studying the organisation's literature. He stated that the ideology of the organisation does not imply violent seizure of power. On 30 June 2014, he was sentenced to eight years in a strict regime colony. On 11 December 2014, the court of second instance left the sentence unchanged. In 2015, the supervisory appeal was returned by the court. He was released from prison in November 2020.
