Case summary
He lived in the Voronezh region, engaged in missionary work. Later he moved to the Krasnodar region. When he applied for a residence permit, his temporary residence permit was confiscated. In August 2021, he was detained on charges of participation in the activities of an extremist organisation and involvement in such activities due to his involvement in the activities of the Islamic movement Tablighi Jamaat. Its adherents were persecuted solely because of their religious activities. On 22 December 2021, he was sentenced to seven years in a general regime colony. In 2023, he recorded a video message from the colony with a confession of guilt and a call to renounce participation in extremist groups.
