Case summary

A resident of Goryachy Klyuch (Krasnodar Region). A case was brought against him for spreading deliberately false information about the Russian Armed Forces because of a post about the destruction of Ukrainian cities. Petrov's case was referred to the court in December 2022, but on 7 March 2023 the consideration was suspended. As a reason on the court's website stated "mental disorder or other serious illness that precludes the possibility of the defendant's appearance". The review was then resumed. On 12 February 2024, the court sent Petrov to compulsory treatment.

In April 2022, Petrov was fined under the administrative article on discrediting the army (part 1 of Article 20.3.3 of the Administrative Code). At that time, he left a comment in "VKontakte" to a video entitled "Russian occupants continue to wipe Mariupol off the face of the earth".
