Case summary

He is a Ukrainian businessman who became famous for a video with an appeal to Zelensky and the phrase “Vova, fuck them, fuck them!”. In October 2023, he was arrested in absentia, and in November he was declared wanted in a case of incitement to hatred for “anti-Russian” videos. Witnesses for the prosecution in the case were Victoria Zelimkhanova, a member of the patriotic youth association Volunteer Batallion, and Sergei Semenov, a member of the Cossack society, who allegedly accidentally saw Povoroznyuk’s video on Telegram. The defence asked to acquit him, as the prosecutor’s office never provided the court with any documents confirming his identity. On 1 July 2024, he was sentenced to five years in absentia.
