Case summary

Polina is a resident of Cherepovets. Polina Roots and her husband Vitaly Torochkov have five children, they were deprived of parental rights at the request of Roots' mother, who had registered custody of the four older children. The youngest girl, an infant, was placed in foster care. The couple blogged "How and why children are taken away in Russia." They publicly renounced their Russian citizenship and said they would use USSR documents. In September 2022, Roots and Torochkov were detained and taken into custody in a case of public justification of terrorism. It later became known that they were also charged with manufacturing and possessing explosives. On 8 June 2023, Roots was sentenced to nine years in a general regime colony and presented with a fine of 350,000 rubles.
