Case summary

A resident of Moscow, a philologist. On February 3, 2023, his home was searched, he was detained and the following day, remanded in custody on charges of publicly justifying terrorism. The media reported that Oleg Seliverov was being investigated for involvement in the Nexta Live Telegram channel. In May 2024, it became known that the charge had been reclassified as incitement to hatred. On August 14, 2024, Seliverov was sentenced to three years of imprisonment. On November 14, 2024, Seliverov was included in the list of extremists and terrorists maintained by the Federal Financial Monitoring Service (Rosfinmonitoring) with a designation typically applied to individuals prosecuted under terrorism-related articles. On this basis, we concluded that a new case had been opened against him. However, it is also possible that the designation was applied due to the initial charge of publicly justifying terrorism. Seliverov was reportedly released on March 31, 2025.
