Case summary
A Bashkir activist. He was detained on 13 January 2021 and taken into custody as part of a case of preparation to commit hooliganism. He was later sent to the Federal Penitentiary Service's hospital and then to a psychoneurological dispensary. In February 2022, Sharafutdinov returned home. The investigation of his case continued, he was also accused of organising the activities of an extremist organisation. The case was brought to court, but in August 2023 the hearings ware suspended. In January 2024, the court resumed hearings, suspended them again in June, but returned to the case in July. On 19 November 2024, Sharafutdinov was sentenced to nine years in a general regime penal olony. On 24 April 2025, the court of appeal overturned the sentence and returned the case to the prosecutor's office. In December 2025, the case came back to court, but without the charge of organising the activities of an extremist organisation. The media outlet "Idel.Realii" later reported that the court had previously considered this charge to be unnecessary. On 30 January 2026, Sharafutdinov was sentenced to three years and three months in a general regime penal colony, but was released from the punishment due to the fact that he had actually served his sentence. He was released from custody in the courtroom. The activist's relatives consider the prosecution as part of the pressure on the eco-activists who participated in the actions in defence of the Kushtau shihan hill.
