On 31 January 2023, the court dismissed the case and ordered Shevchuk to pay a judicial fine of 30,000 rubles. The court considered that Shevchuk had refuted the "false information" he had disseminated in his Telegram channel, published "a number of patriotic posts dedicated to the exploits of servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation during the participation in a special military operation", and donated 15,000 rubles to an orphanage. The prosecutor appealed the judgement, claiming that Shevchuk's actions had damaged the "reputation and prestige" of the Russian Armed Forces. However, on 23 May, the court of appeal instance upheld the decision. On 12 October, the cassation court overturned the decision and sent the case for a new trial to the appeals court, which on 21 November ordered the case to be returned to the trial court. On 21 December 2023, Shevchuk was sentenced to six months of correctional labour.
