Case summary
Resident of Asino (Tomsk region). In 2017, he ran for mayor of the city from the Yabloko party, but lost to a candidate from United Russia, after which he spoke about pressure from the authorities. In 2018, Shitik left Russia because of an anonymous note saying that "if he doesn't shut up, his relatives will bury him." In addition, Shitik received information that the Tomsk prosecutor's office was allegedly planning to launch a criminal case against him. On 1 August 2022, his parents were searched as part of a case of spreading deliberately false information about the Russian Armed Forces.
