According to the investigation, in January 2022, "being in the Kramatorsk district, [the accused] voluntarily joined the ranks of the special purpose battalion "Donbass" of the Slaviansk regiment of the National Guard of Ukraine" and "in order to carry out terrorist activities, underwent training on the territory of the battalion's permanent deployment point". Then, he "participated in combat operations against the Russian Armed Forces on the territory of the Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics", as per the press release of the "Luhansk People's Republic prosecutor's office".
