Case summary
On September 25, Shtovba was detained during the Mayakovsky Readings on Triumfalnaya Square, and a report was filed against him for violating the order of holding a public event (Article 20.2 Part 5 of the Code of Administrative Offences). The following day, the court imposed a fine of 20,000 roubles on him, after which he was taken to the Investigative Committee. On September 28, the court ordered Shtovba into custody. Initially, he was charged with incitement to hatred with the threat of violence (paragraph a of Article 282 Part 2 of the Criminal Code), but later the charge was reclassified to incitement to hatred by an organised group (paragraph c of Article 282 Part 2 of the Criminal Code), and an additional charge of inciting activities against the security of the state, committed by an organised group (Article 280.4 Part 3 of the Criminal Code) was added. On December 28, 2023, Shtovba was sentenced to five and a half years in a general regime colony. While in the pre-trial detention centre, Shtovba was included in the preventive register "as a person prone to committing terrorist and extremist offences".
