Case summary
On 11 May 2021, Smolnikov's home was searched, he was interrogated, and the next day by court decision he was taken into custody on charges of public justification of terrorism. On 6 September, he was released and a preventive measure in the form of a ban on certain actions was chosen. On 18 November, it became known that the prosecutor's office returned the case for further investigation. Later the case was transferred to the court. On 16 March 2023, Smolnikov was sentenced to a fine of 300 thousand rubles.
