According to the ASTRA Telegram channel, Maskhadov wrote two comments in VKontakte groups dedicated to Russian history. The first comment, dated 9 April 2021, says that "Maskhadov is a true hero of his country and a hero who died for freedom". The second comment, dated 28 April of the same year, says: "The ChRI [Chechen Republic of Ichkeria] had its own government, there was Maskhadov, who fought terrorism. They didn't ask Kh*lusha to break in, well under the pretext of a fictitious breeding ground for terrorism, occupy the territory rich in oil, then come up with a referendum and annex a strategically useful peninsula, further if Kh*ilo stays - the Baltics is next in the line".
