According to the investigation, on 11 March 2022 Stone posted on Twitter a publication "justifying aggressive, hostile and violent actions against servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation participating in a special military operation", as well as "public calls to commit acts of terrorism aimed at causing death to servicemen". Later, the prosecutor asked to exclude calls to terrorism from the charges. The case was prompted by Stone's tweet with Meta's official statement regarding content moderation rules. In it, the corporation said that in connection with the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine, it would temporarily consider statements wishing death to Russian "invaders" to be permissible on its sites, while calls for violence against Russian civilians would remain prohibited.
